About the Whipmaker
Nick Ammann is a self taught whipmaker who has been handcrafting kangaroo and cowhide leather whips for over 6 years. It all started back in 2005 when I was looking for a hobby to pass the time, so I decided to pick up a sheet of leather and a sharp knife. From early childhood through high school to furthering my artistic ability in The Art Institute of Pittsburgh I have always been involved in arts and crafts from woodcrafting, pottery, painting, 2D/3D animation, web design and photography, I became very interested in the art of whipmaking. After reading and teaching myself everything there is to know about the subject, I was fortunate enough to meet up with a group of whipmakers and professional whip performers who brought more confidence into my whipmaking ability and also helped with learning how to wield a whip to act as an extension of my body to be able to drive out a force that has the ability to break the speed of sound. To this day I continue to perfect my whipmaking skills as it has become a lifestyle which has helped me physically , mentally and spiritually. I want to thank all of those who have taken time out to help in my pursuit to achieve what I have been working towards for the past many years.
Take care,
Nick
